Cooking a unique take on a luxury meat – such as making Wagyu steak burgers – can be exciting for guests and surprisingly easy for you. Wagyu beef is known for its rich fattiness, which makes burgers unbelievably moist and juicy.
How to Prepare Wagyu Steak Burgers
There are plenty of different ways to cook burgers, but there are also certain tried and true methods that are used by some of the world’s most famous steakhouses and chefs. It’s essential to start out with high quality beef, so consider purchasing your meat from a purveyor like Lone Mountain Wagyu Beef to ensure that you are serving the best quality available. You’ll only need a few ingredients in addition to the meat, like salt, pepper, buns, and any additional toppings like cheese, onions, lettuce or tomatoes.
Step 1: Season the beef
With a high quality beef like Wagyu it is often recommended to skip the heavy steak spices and simply use simple salt and pepper for seasoning.
Step 2: Make the patties
Depending on how much beef you buy and how big you like your burgers, the number of patties you make will vary. However, it is recommended to not make patties too thick, to ensure even cooking inside and outside the burger. Typically, if you purchase 1 ½ pounds of beef you will get about 4 patties, each around ¾ of an inch thick. Step 4, Method 2: Pan seared
For those without a grill or who prefer indoor cooking methods, searing Wagyu steak burgers in a pan is a preferred choice by many aficionados. Most importantly you’ll want to make sure the pan – use a cast-iron skillet if you have – is as hot as possible. Heat it up and sear each burger between 3 and 4 minutes on each side. Again, it’s best to undercook the meat rather than overcooking it, as allowing it to rest while covered for 10 minutes will cook it through.
Step 5: Dress, serve, and enjoy
Most people prefer to serve Wagyu burgers without cheese since the meat itself is so delicious, but after the burgers have rested, dress them up with any additions you and your guests prefer. Lettuce and tomatoes are a great option, and encourage guests to sample a bite before loading on the ketchup – these burgers will be unlike any they’ve ever had!
