How to Use Your New Essential Oil Kit

If you’re new to essential oils, looking at all those little bottles can be overwhelming. Where do you begin? Don’t be intimidated! Using essential oils is actually really simple. There are a few things you should know before you begin. We’ll get to the 55 uses after you have some basic information….

Dilute Your Oils

Because essential oils are potent, more is NOT better. To achieve the desired results, 1-3 drops is usually enough. Quick-absorbing areas on your body are the feet, wrists and behind the ears. Follow the guidelines in the charts below for proper dilution.

EO Dilution Guidelines What is a Carrier Oil?

Carrier oil is any natural, plant-derived oil used to dilute essential oil. Some oils to consider are: grapeseed oil, fractionated coconut oil, vegetable oil, olive oil, almond oil, rosehip, avocado oil, jojoba and apricot kernel oil. Buy organic when possible.

Choosing a Carrier Oil for Your Skin Type

  • Oily/Acne Prone: Grapeseed, Jojoba
  • Combination: Grapeseed, Jojoba, Apricot Kernal
  • Normal: Almond, Jojoba, Apricot Kernal
  • Dry/Mature: Avocado, Almond, Jojoba, Rosehip, Olive, Coconut

Why Use a Carrier Oil?

  1. Using a carrier oil aids absorption. Without a carrier oil, a larger percentage of the essential oil evaporates in the air. Adding a carrier oil gets MORE essential oil into the skin.
  2. Diluting protects the skin from irritation and sensitivity.
  3. Diluting makes your oils go further. For large areas like the stomach, chest, back, etc. using a carrier oils enables you to use 1-2 drops at a time but still cover the area needed.
