I love being called “Mommy” and I do my best to raise positive, kind and caring young men. But when my boys are sick or down, sometimes I feel helpless. Not every childhood ailment can be cured by a doctor. Sometimes it takes a little special “Mommy Love” to make them feel better. That’s why I want to give you 3 Reasons Essential Oil Makes Kids Feel Better….AND MOM’S TOO!

3 Reasons Essential Oil Makes Kids Feel Better
1. The Power of Touch
When kids are feeling “under the weather”, nothing is more soothing than the power of a parent’s touch. In my home we use essential oil for emotional support and physical touch. Sometimes the simple act of applying oils with a gentle touch is enough to make kids feel better.
Peppermint Foot Massage
We use essential oil in conjunction with over-the-counter and prescription medications. I like using peppermint oil on the soles of the feet during times of fever. My youngest son, Alex, gets really high fevers when he has a virus (up to 105ºF). We always follow the doctors order to lower his fever using acetaminophen or ibuprofen and we use essential oil as a way to encourage loving touch and snuggles to help him feel better.
- 3 drops Peppermint mixed with 1 tsp apricot kernal oil
- Gently massage into soles of feet
Lavender Back Massage
As an additional way to soothe my son, I give him a gentle back massage using diluted lavender essential oil. This helps him relax and get the rest he needs to feel better.
- Mix 5 drops of lavender essential oil in 1/2 tsp of apricot kernal oil (or other carrier oil)
- Gently massage the back and neck using this mixture
2. Simple Solutions for Everyday Childhood Complaints
School day stress (or occasional stress) often turns into “Mommy my tummy hurts.” By having an oil to turn to, my kids feel heard, understood and cared for. Sometimes just taking the time to listen and offer a solution is enough to make them feel better. I simply apply diluted DiGize to their tummy and they magically “feel better”.
Magic Mommy touch formula:
- Mix 5 drops of Digize with 1/2 tsp apricot kernal oil (or other carrier oil)
- Gently massage on tummy
3. Emotional and Physical Support
Diffusing and applying essential oil blends provides emotional and physical support to kids. My son’s favorite pre-school morning diffuser blend is Lemon, Lavender and Peppermint (LLP). He loves to spend one-on-one time with Mom in the morning and diffusing this blend helps him breathe easier and let go of the worries about being away from me. He’s kind of a mama’s boy (I love that!).
My older son, Zach complains of “having trouble sleeping” from time to time. To provide emotional support, I listen and acknowledge his feelings. Then as a fun activity he and I created a “Sleepy Time Roller” that he can apply to the bottom of his feet before bed. Together we took control and gave Zach a physical solution. This gives him the power to find a sleep solution on his own. Sometimes kids need to feel in control of their emotions. I give my kids the power with essential oils. 😀
Kids need to feel physically and emotionally heard and supported. Essential oils give me the tools I need to take effective action as a Mom!
Mommy Morning Blend
- Diffuse 2 drops Lemon, 2 drops Lavender and 2 drops peppermint
- Allow diffuser to run for 15-30 minutes in the same room as your child
Sleepy Time Roller Blend
- Add 7 drops lavender, 7 drops cedarwood and 4 drops copaiba to a 10 mL glass roller bottle
- Top with carrier oil of choice (apricot kernal, olive, vegetable or coconut)
- Apply to bottom of feet at bedtime
Kids want to feel emotionally and physically supported. As a Mom, it feels good having essential oils to turn to. I feel like I have a solution to just about every ailment! The power of a parent’s touch can have a big impact on making your child “feel better”. So, next time your child has an everyday complaint be sure to listen to them and understand what they’re feeling. Then offer a physical solution with essential oil. It’s a win-win!
